(Screenshot: GamesHub, Eiodos-Montréal/Square Enix)īetween witty banter, a banging soundtrack, breakneck action and quieter character moments, the game manages to successfully carve out its own identity beyond the MCU Guardians franchise. It’s the Guardians of the Galaxy, but not as you know them. I just wish it could be a more cohesive and free-flowing experience because the concept is delicious.Expectations that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy manages to shatter within the first hour of gameplay. I like the game, it has a lot of potentials, the art style is gorgeous, the way the levels incorporate platforms is just sublime and the powers/spells really mix it up but it the crappy design and flow of the levels, the constant difficulty spikes thanks to either bad design or cheap camera movements. As a platformer, it needs to do certain things but it fails at the simple stuff, it is one of those games where it felt like no one played it after building it, little missteps that cause a lot of annoyance and frustration. No the real issue for me is the bad checkpointing but also the cheap level design tactics deployed to try and stop you. For me the combat is bad but manageable, you just have to retrain yourself and be patient. There is a fantastic game in here, it’s got that hook whereby exploration is fun, the loot is plentiful, and gives you so many options to mix it up, issue is the bits that are bad are frustrating and really stop you in your tracks. • The healing you get from powers and items is a small add-on on top of the needless cooldown meter.
  • At times the hit detection gets whacky and throws you around.
  • Some parts of the level have you seemingly walking on air.
  • Combat has that annoying thing where you can’t change direction when pressing the button.
  • Quite harsh knowledge costs for using powers/spells.
  • Basically, if you hack and slash you will have a tough time.
